Paul joined the OGC in 2012. He is a member of the Transactional Law Services Group and practices in the area of intellectual property, including patent and trademark matters. Paul also works on data privacy and security issues, as well as reviewing software purchases made at the University. Prior to joining OGC, Paul practiced patent law for over 20 years. He served as in-house counsel at Chiron Corporation and Cargill, Inc., and was in private practice at Dorsey & Whitney; Patterson, Thuente, Skaar & Christensen; and Viksnins Harris & Padys PLLP. Paul graduated from Saint Olaf College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1991 he received both a Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Minnesota. He is currently serving as Pipe Major for the Minnesota Police Pipe Band.
