University Corporate and Affiliated Entities

Staff Contacts

The University is a complex organization with operations around the state, the country and the world. It frequently partners with other government agencies and departments, non-governmental organizations, and private companies to conduct research, teach and provide services and information to the community. It creates entities, alone or in collaboration with others. These arrangements further the University’s mission, bringing needed capital, resources, and knowledge to support University programs and activities. These arrangements raise sophisticated corporate law questions. Whether the University should hold equity in the strategic partner, how are the project costs to be shared, will University employees serve on the governing board, and who holds intellectual property rights are a few of the issues to be considered and negotiated. The Office of the General Counsel advises senior University administrators and others on setting up these joint ventures and other strategic relationships.
